Dear Stark County Taxpayers:

Notice is hereby given that Real Estate Taxes for the First Half 2011 are due and payable on or before Wednesday, February 15, 2012. Payments that are mailed must be postmarked by midnight of February 15, 2012, by the United States Postal Service only. Postmarks from private mailing machines (meters) are not acceptable. After February 15, 2012, a penalty must be charged in accordance with the Ohio Revised Code. In addition interest is charged twice yearly on certified unpaid balances. When your mortgage is paid or if it is sold to another mortgage company, it is the property owner's responsibility under the Ohio Revised Code to see that this office is advised in order that the tax bill will be sent to the correct address.

The First Half 2011 manufactured home taxes are due by March 1, 2012. If sending by mail, your payment must be U.S. Postmarked by March 1st to avoid penalty and interest. Checks should be made payable to Stark County Treasurer.

Every effort is made to see that you receive your tax bills; however, Section 323.13 of the Ohio Revised Code provides that the property owner is responsible for payments (plus any penalties and interest) even if you did not receive your bill. Please contact us at once if you did not receive your bill or if you have any indication that your tax bill may have been misdirected.

The Treasurer has no authority to increase your real estate taxes. Any increase in the amount of your current real estate taxes must be attributed to the valuation changes, tax levies or bond issues voted and passed in your tax district. The taxable value shown on your bill is 35% of market value of your property.

If you want to protest your value of your property on which your taxes are based, you must do so in writing by March 31st of each calendar year. Because this date is a Saturday in 2012, the forms will be accepted until Monday, April 2, 2012. Please contact the Auditor's office (330) 451-7357 or visit their website www.auditor.co.stark.oh.us to download the form.
